AMD promises completely different CPU architecture

Giuseppe Amato, AMD's European Technical Director of Sales and Marketing, has said that the company's next-generation CPU microarchitecture promises to be completely different from what is currently shipping.

Amato told Custom PC that "if you look at the next-generation architecture of our CPU, then it will definitely not be comparable with the Phenom. It will look completely different."

He didn't delve into any details on the new architecture, but he added that the new architecture "would solve problems that today we think can never be addressed by hardware."

We're expecting this to be based on the Bulldozer core, which will bring modularity to CPU design. It will quite possibly be AMD's first architecture that integrates a GPU core, as several company execs have hinted to us that 780G is the last AMD integrated graphics chipset.
