Beyond Good and Evil 2 unveiled

Ubidays 2008 has been a lot of things so far; mainly a great excuse to visit the Louvre and to exploit Ubisoft's open bar policy. One other thing it's been has been a chance for us to see the first footage of Michel Ancel's massively anticipated sequel to Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The first day of Ubidays has just finished and although the main presentation to the event, which was hosted by Vernon Kay, didn't seem like it was going to have many surprises in store, it ended on quite a high note as Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot introduced the first footage of Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The sequel to the original multiplatform action-adventure has been massively anticipated by fans as, although the original game didn't sell well on release it did prove to be a sleeper hit after excellent reaction from critics – including us.

The footage shown at Ubidays was definitely rough in some regards, despite the excellent visuals on offer. The trailer only showed a broken down car in the desert, a familiarly feminine silhouette sat on the bonnet and Pey'j the man-pig sat in the shade, sniffing up flies.

Though the trailer itself looked good, the video wasn't formally introduced as Beyond Good and Evil 2 in anyway, though that’s clearly what it was judging by the recogniseable characters. Instead, Yves Guillemot only declared the footage as the "exclusive trailer for Michel Ancel’s next game."

Michel Ancel, lead designer of the original game and creator of the Rayman series recently confirmed that the game was being planned, but said the title had yet to be approved by Ubisoft. Now though, it seems that approval has been given.

You can watch the trailer for yourself at the official Ubidays 2008 site, along with other videos from the event.

No further details were given on the game and Ubisoft spokespersons refused to comment on the trailer no matter how many drinks we plied them with. Rest assured though, we’ll bring you information as we hear it. Until then, you'll have to discuss the game in the forums.
