3G iPhones made by Foxconn, coming June
Despite no official word coming from Apple, everyone pretty much knows the 3G iPhone is coming very soon. Just to further cement things, Chinese paper Commercial Times, has been speaking to Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industries) who has already landed orders to make the second generation unit.
Seeing as Foxconn is already the sole producer of the first generation iPhone, it's hardly surprising to see that the company has reportedly landed the deal for the next-gen handset.
What is interesting though is that the paper went as far as to say Foxconn is preparing to deliver three million 3G iPhones in June when it (apparently) launches at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 (WWDC 2008), with up to an estimated 25 million shipping over its entire life-span.
The paper confirms the report by also confirming that component suppliers have already been told by Apple to prepare for a serious production ramp towards the end of May.
With first-generation iPhone prices slashed recently and the confirmation that UMC will fabricate Infineon Technoloiges' 3G baseband chip (PMB878) on its 65nm process, all we're waiting for now is Mr. Jobs to deliver another overhyped keynote and give us a price for the new handset.
Well, actually we've still no confirmation on potential new features and new storage capacities - just that it'll be faster to get to your porn email (oh, same thing actually) on the train. Lets hope Apple fixes the phone part first and improves the reception this time around!
Can't wait for 3G iPhone, or are you so underwhelmed with the next Jesus Phone that you're going to rant at me in the forums? I don't mind, I don't want one... much. Although a GPS tied into Google Maps, Phone, MP3 player... hmmm.
