Gears of War PC certificate expires

If you’ve tried to play a copy of Gears of War PC today then you’ve probably noticed that something isn’t quite right – namely that the game doesn’t work.

The reason for this is apparently a certificate problem caused by the ever-popular Games for Windows Live service.

Players who attempted to start the game recently found themselves with a error which reads that "This certificate has expired or is not yet valid" – which is both vague and unhelpful.

The good news though is that posters on the Epic forum have quickly found a workaround and discovered that the errors can be avoided if you reset you system clocks back to before the certificate apparently expired, so not being able to play Gears of War on the PC isn’t the end of the world.

Epic meanwhile have said that they are aware of the problem and are currently working with Microsoft to fix it so that gamers can get back to playing Gears of War PC as fast as possible.
