Prince of Persia DS unveiled

Ubisoft has finally unveiled the first details for the Nintendo DS spin-off of the new Prince of Persia game, which is to be subtitled as Prince of Persia: The Fallen King apparently.

The new Prince of Persia game is a radical departure for the series and will completely reboot the story, with a new vagabond-style hero and a story more closely based around the stories of Scheherazade and the 1001 Arabian Nights. More notably the game also uses a new cel-shaded graphical style and this is one which Prince of Persia: The Fallen King seems to have mirrored.

At the moment there seems to be no real information or details about the new Nintendo DS tie-in, but what we do know is that the game will be a two-dimensional platformer which makes heavy use of the stylus as an input and which will feature over 50 maps.

Story-wise players will again get a chance to play as the Prince, described in the release as the 'most agile warrior of all time', but also as a new character called The Magus. The Magus is a new, magic-wielding ally to the Prince who will help him battle an evil corruption which is slowly destroying the world. There's no mention of Elika making an appearance from the main console and PC versions of the game.

The plot for the game is, just like previous Prince of Persia games on the DS, more of a tie-in than an adaptation and though the information we have promises that the story of The Fallen King will coincide closely with the plot of the game proper, there are no details of how exactly.

If you're still interested in seeing more screen shots of the full version and want to know more about the game then you can check out our Prince of Persia preview from UbiDays 2008.

The full concept art featured above reflects how the cel-shaded style for the console and PC game is being adapted to the DS - but is it to cutesy for you to stomach? Let us know what you think in the forums.
